History of The Net Church

September 1996

Dave Male meeting with the Bishop starts the whole process.

28th November 1998

After many meetings the Bishops Council agrees to the formation of a new church for a 3 year trial.

1st January 1999

Dave Male starts as vicar of new church that as yet has no members…...

Jan/Feb 1999

Various meetings around Huddersfield to recruit a starting team.

February-April 1999

People committed to the church start meeting together on a Tuesday evening. A name is decided for the church 'The Net' and its mission statement.

23rd April 1999

Dave Male licensed by Bishop Nigel to be leader of the Net.

28th March 1999

First ever service at The Mill for the new team.

7-9th May 1999

First of our weekends away at Green Gables Scarborough with Greg from America.

May-June 1999

Groups meet to look at the principles of 'The Great Commandment'.

30th September 1999

Launch service of The Net at a suite at the McAlpine Stadium-over 300 attend.

3rd October 1999

First ever Sunday service open to anybody held at the George Hotel. Helen Watts joins the church as part time children's leader. Playstations start.

19th December 1999

First multi media event- Christmas extravaganza at the George Hotel.

16 January 2000

First meeting at Lesser Hall, Huddersfield University.

19th March 2000

Confirmation service with Bishop Nigel. Launch of church website - www.netchurch.org.uk

17th September 2000

Chris Baskerville starts as children’s worker. New mid week clubs are launched

26th November 2000

Bishops Council unanimously agree to The Net continuing for another 5 years.

September 2001

Diane Baxter is commissioned as associate leader. Sunday services move to Highfield School, Edgerton.

September 2003

The church continues to grow so our Sunday services move to Almondbury High School.

September 2006

Dave Male leaves for a job in Cambridge, and Nick Haigh starts as our new vicar.

February 2007

The church grows even further so our Sunday services move to National Children's Centre.
